Why International Adoption?

Why?  Why would two people who believe in foster care (and are poor by community standards) adopt internationally?  It's complicated and then it's not.  Adam and I both work in with socio-economic disparities.  Jessica works with health disparities and Adam works with disparities in the legal system.  We could quote the stats on foster care and criminal justice; we could rattle off stats on the stats of the the disparities.  As long as those disparities exist, I imagine that we both will advocate for foster care and social justice in the United States.  Yet, that doesn't make global health and injustice any less important.  It doesn't make any child any less deserving of a family.  We will not make an argument for one case, one CHILD, over another.  Because all the stats, they represent actual children.  Do we feel the need to justify.  Absolutely. Are we afraid of being judged as foster care advocates because we want to bring our son home from overseas?  Absolutely.   But, at the end of the day, it's not about us.  It never has been.  It's about our son.  And what wouldn't you do to save your child?  Would you stand a little bit of judgement?  Absolutely.  Would you beg for money?  Absolutely.   Would you follow God?  Absolutely.  Because it's about him and HIM.  We prayed and over and over God spoke to our hearts that this was our path.  We felt that perhaps we were reading too much into our hearts, and ask God for confirmation, and over and over he answered.  Does it mean that we will succeed?  No.  Does it mean that we will be free from trial and failure?  No.  Will we follow God and fight for the path he is leading us down.  Absolutely.   Is it a guarantee?  No.  Until we bring our boy home and the US Courts decree him our son, there is always the possibility for roadblocks.  That is the world of adoption.  That is the world, period.  No day is promised to any of us unless ordain by God.
